Attention: It's the start of another weekend of football. Number 1 vs. Number 2.....B.C.S. at its best. Professional and inter-league games, with the best of production and play-by-play in a sharp D.V.D. world. Unsurpassed...
But wait.....What about GREAT?.....GREAT this. GREAT that. Announcers using that tired modifier more often than the commercial break. From the eastern time zone to the gold coast--great catch, great block, great call. The only adjective used by the color announcers is GREAT. Let's try solid, fantastic.....Any thing other than GREAT. It's time to start with outstanding, or at least wonderful.
So let the games begin, and watch those super, stupendous, spectacular athletes perform. The best of athletes on a cool Saturday's match-up playing outrageous football worthy of high praise. So, let us say describe the play as, a good contest, and well-played game. Out. Mike

Give me the Vin Scully-Chick Hearn school of broadcasting anytime. These guys learned their craft on radio and had to provide both a description that you could visualize and a narrative storyline for the game. They were masters.
And what about the big market/East Coast bias generally shown by national "pretty boy" sportscasters anyway? Sometimes I don't even know my team is on the field. When "they" have the ball, it's all about "their" offense. When "we" have the ball, it's all about "their" defense. What's up with that?
Oh, how I long for the days of Jerry Doggett...
